(1Co 11:2-3 KJV) Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you. 11:3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Messiah; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Messiah is Yahweh.
[Paul is setting forth the line of authority in the body of believers. Yahweh, Yahshua, Husband (father, head of house where a woman lives), then the woman.]
(1Co 11:5 KJV) But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.
(1Co 11:16 KJV) But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the assemblies of Yahweh
[The head covering for a woman is plainly spelled out, so what is the problem. Those of us who wear a covering all or most of the time do so in obedience to scripture as we understand it.
One thing that puzzles me is why a husband would object, but a surprising number do. The covering shows to the world that the wife is striving to live as an obedient wife, so what is the objection?
1.The covering, (veil, hat, scarf) is a statement of wifely submission and what woman wants to be that way, and what man wants a woman to put that responsibility on his shoulders.
2. Some claim it detracts from the persons attractiveness. Our worth or that of our spouses is important and who would give up being known as well-dressed for being known for our obedience to scripture.
3. It marks a woman as one striving to live a pure life. Who would want that for a spouse, daughter, mother, etc.
4. It can mark a female as a target of those opposed to purity, and those who wish to steal the purity.
Usually I use at least two scriptures before I set forth the claim that these scriptures are a commandment. The second is not there, plainly spelled out. We can go to other scriptures where a veil is spoken of, but not a commandment to wear one.
This is truly a heart matter both for male and female!
Ladies, if it is your desire to wear a covering pray about it and ask Yahweh to prepare your male head's heart to allow it. Many do not object when it is worn only during prayer, but for myself I often speak with my Father as I am working or resting. In other words, any time I desire, no matter where I am or what the circumstances! It would be ridiculous for me to whip our a cloth to cover my heard every time, private or public, for it would soon be ragged and dirty. Not a desirable state for an item that is in effect set-apart to set us apart.]
