They Prepared Not Their Hearts
July 11, 2020
[We all understand that to have a relationship with Yahweh we have to involve our hearts. Are our hearts prepared to serve Him?]
(2Ch 20:31-33 KJV) And Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah: he was thirty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi. 20:32 And he walked in the way of Asa his father, and departed not from it, doing that which was right in the sight of Yahweh. 20:33 Howbeit the high places were not taken away: for as yet the people had not prepared their hearts unto the Almighty of their fathers.
[The word unto means toward. So the people had not shifted their affections toward Yahweh. They were not fully convinced that Yahweh could fill their hearts in the ways they were familiar with. They had not come to trust Him yet!]
(1Ch 29:10-16 KJV) Wherefore David blessed Yahweh before all the congregation: and David said, Blessed be Thou, Yahweh Almighty of Israel our father, for ever and ever. 29:11 Thine, O Yahweh, is the greatness, and the power, and the honor, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is Thine; Thine is the kingdom, O Yahweh, and Thou art exalted as head above all.
29:12 Both riches and honour come of Thee, and Thou reignest over all; and in Thine hand is power and might; and in Thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all. 29:13 Now therefore, our Almighty, we thank Thee, and praise Thy celebrated name. 29:14 But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of Thee, and of Thine own have we given Thee. 29:15 For we are strangers before Thee, and sojourners, as were all our fathers: our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is none abiding. 29:16 O Yahweh our Almighty, all this store that we have prepared to build thee a house for Thine set-apart name cometh of Thine hand, and is all Thine own.
[What was true then is true today, all we have comes from Yahweh. All we give in His name was His to begin with.]
(1Ch 29:17-20 KJV) I know also, my Almighty, that thou triest the heart, and hast pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of mine heart I have willingly offered all these things: and now have I seen with joy Thy people, which are present here, to offer willingly unto Thee. 29:18 O Yahweh Almighty of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, our fathers, keep this for ever in the imagination of the thoughts of the heart of Thy people, and prepare their heart unto Thee: 29:19 And give unto Solomon my son a perfect heart, to keep Thy commandments, Thy testimonies, and Thy statutes, and to do all these things, and to build the palace, for the which I have made provision. 29:20 And David said to all the congregation, Now bless Yahweh your Almighty. And all the congregation blessed Yahweh Almighty of their fathers, and bowed down their heads, and worshipped Yahweh, and the king.
[David’s prayer for Solomon and all Israel. Everyone is excited about the preparations for the building of the temple. But David’s prayer is to remind the people that everything they have, they have because Yahweh gave it to them. In verse 18 he asks for the people to remember this fact, but he also prays that Yahweh will prepare their hearts toward Himself. Have we asked Yahweh if our hearts are right toward Him? He also speaks of the people as being of one heart in verse 18 and that is the cry even today, a people with one heart toward Yahweh.]
(Job 11:7-12 KJV) Canst thou by searching find out Almighty? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection? 11:8 It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know? 11:9 The measure thereof is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea. 11:10 If He cut off, and shut up, or gather together, then who can hinder Him? 11:11 For He knoweth vain men: He seeth wickedness also; will He not then consider it? 11:12 For vain man would be wise, though man be born like a wild ass's colt.
[We each have searched for Yahweh and found Him, therefore we have the following to look forward to.]
Job 11:13-20 If thou prepare thine heart, and stretch out thine hands toward Him; 11:14 If iniquity be in thine hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in thy tabernacles. 11:15 For then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot; yea, thou shalt be stedfast, and shalt not fear: 11:16 Because thou shalt forget thy misery, and remember it as waters that pass away: 11:17 And thine age shall be clearer than the noonday; thou shalt shine forth, thou shalt be as the morning. 11:18 And thou shalt be secure, because there is hope; yea, thou shalt dig about thee, and thou shalt take thy rest in safety. 11:19 Also thou shalt lie down, and none shall make thee afraid; yea, many shall make suit unto thee. 11:20 But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and they shall not escape, and their hope shall be as the giving up of the ghost.
[If you prepare your heart! If you stretch out your hands toward Him! Then, and only then can you expect the following in your life:
No fear, no loss of clarity with age, dwelling in safety, others will seek you out. This is not to be for the wicked. They may have long lives and prosper, but they never have the security of salvation. They may not be wise enough to think about eternity, but it will come. For me the day to day emotional and spiritual support of the Comforter walking with me has been one of the greatest gifts that has come with this walk. To no longer feel the total burden of responsibility for the welfare of those that depend on me, for He helps carry it, has been the greatest relief.]
(Psa 10:13-18 KJV) Wherefore doth the wicked contemn Almighty? he hath said in his heart, Thou wilt not require it. 10:14 Thou hast seen it; for Thou beholdest mischief and spite, to requite it with Thy hand: the poor committeth himself unto Thee; Thou art the helper of the fatherless. 10:15 Break thou the arm of the wicked and the evil man: seek out his wickedness till Thou find none. 10:16 Yahweh is King for ever and ever: the heathen are perished out of His land.
10:17 Yahweh, Thou hast heard the desire of the humble: Thou wilt prepare their heart, Thou wilt cause Thine ear to hear: 10:18 To judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of the earth may no more oppress.
[Verse 14 tells us the poor have committed themselves to Yahweh, and Yahweh hearing them is happy to prepare their hearts to receive Him. Ask and you shall receive! Feeling lost? Pray for His presence! Ask Him to prepare your heart to receive His spirit more fully.]
(DRB) So shall the last be first and the first last. For many are called but few chosen.
(Murdock) Thus the last shall be first, and the first last: for the called are many, but the chosen are few.
[Most versions do not have the last few words, few are chosen. Scripture is clear – Yahweh wants all to be saved. So He surely calls all at some point in their lives, and we know that more refuse the call than accept it. So why would He call if He knows He will not chose them even if they are willing? Isn’t that what is implied? I am not rewriting scripture but if the last was that few choose to follow, it would agree with what we see. In 1Chronicals we are told the people had not prepared their hearts.
I have pondered this statement and wondered, how do you prepare your heart? As I look at my walk it seems to have started with a desire to be loved without cost. When I heard the words of scripture and the songs that told me there was someone who would love me as long as I loved them. That He wants me to be perfect – set-apart – just like Him. But that He will continue to love me even when I fail Him, that is what captured my heart for I was a mess up for sure. It was years before I chose to live in obedience, but I always knew He still loved me and was waiting for me to return my heart to Him. Sounds like unconditional love to some, but when you study to show yourself approved you find that all promises to the righteous are conditional upon our obedience to Yahweh’s Torah.]
(Rom 2:12-15 KJV) For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law; 2:13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before Almighty, but the doers of the law shall be justified. 2:14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: 2:15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)
(Jer 31:31-34 KJV) Behold, the days come, saith Yahweh, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which My covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith Yahweh: 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith Yahweh, I will put My law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their Almighty, and they shall be My people. 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know Yahweh: for they shall all know Me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith Yahweh: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
[We all have met those who live out the teachings of Torah in relationship to their fellow beings, but do not study scripture and may even totally ignore it. Has not Jeremiah been fulfilled in their lives?
Is it that easy for others to see the same walk in our lives? Are we walking out the positive aspects of Torah for all to see in action and to hear in our speech? Are we doing so in joy so there will be something to desire? Or are our lives a list of do not touch, do not taste, etc. that leaves others doubting our sanity for following such a life style.
Do not get me wrong I certainly have my list of do’s and do not’s. I pray my walk also shows the benefits these lists give me. The thing is they are my lists, just for Mary, not necessarily applicable for everyone. Yahweh and I have worked out those lists since He is really the only one who knows all there is to know about Mary and what it will take to keep her on task.
Yahweh tells us to ask and we will receive, not necessarily what we ask for but what will give us the desire of our heart eventually. The thing is we have to give Yahweh permission to change our hearts, as necessary, so we will desire what is good for us. I guess that is what the preparing to receive is, asking Yahweh to make what ever changes are necessary so we can receive Him. Evil can not abide with set-apartness if that set-apartness is in the image of Yahweh. We each choose, even when we refuse to make a choice. That is a choice to let others choose for you, but remember if you allow it you own it.]
(Psa 23:1-6 BBE) A Psalm. Of David. The Most High takes care of me as His sheep; I will not be without any good thing. 23:2 He makes a resting-place for me in the green fields: He is my guide by the quiet waters. 23:3 He gives new life to my soul: He is my guide in the ways of righteousness because of His name. 23:4 Yes, though I go through the valley of deep shade, I will have no fear of evil; for You are with me, Your rod and Your support are my comfort. 23:5 You make ready a table for me in front of my haters: you put oil on my head; my cup is overflowing. 23:6 Truly, blessing and mercy will be with me all the days of my life; and I will have a place in the house of the Most High all my days.
[What more could we ask for? I chose this version because of verse 3, that is exactly what He has done for me and in me. May you come to that point again, as need be, for this life will try to kill that which is good and life giving in you. Let Yahweh prepare your heart, give Him permission and He will do the work as you allow it. We are the ones who set the limit of what Yahweh can do in us and with us, so talk it over with Him if your life is not what you think it should be and see what He has to say. Be prepared to change if need arises.]
(2Ch 19:1-3 KJV) And Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned to his house in peace to Jerusalem. 19:2 And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Jehoshaphat, Shouldest thou help the unrighteous, and love them that hate Yahweh? therefore is wrath upon thee from before Yahweh. 19:3 Nevertheless there are good things found in thee, in that thou hast taken away the groves out of the land, and hast prepared thine heart to seek Almighty.
[Jehoshaphat had been aiding Israel in war, and Israel was in full rebellion against Yahweh, thus he was aiding an enemy of Yahweh. We need to be sure when dealing with others that our human relationships do not cause us to do the same. He was working to bring Judah into full fellowship with Yahweh, but sinned in helping his kinsmen, Israel.]
(2Ch 19:4-7 KJV) And Jehoshaphat dwelt at Jerusalem: and he went out again through the people from Beersheba to mount Ephraim, and brought them back unto Yahweh Almighty of their fathers. 19:5 And he set judges in the land throughout all the fenced cities of Judah, city by city, 19:6 And said to the judges, Take heed what ye do: for ye judge not for man, but for Yahweh, who is with you in the judgment. 19:7 Wherefore now let the fear of Yahweh be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with Yahweh our Almighty, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.
[When the king joined the enemies of Yahweh the people did as well. Now the king has repented and is again working for Yahweh. How blessed are the people who have righteous leaders.]
(2Ch 19:8-11 KJV) Moreover in Jerusalem did Jehoshaphat set of the Levites, and of the priests, and of the chief of the fathers of Israel, for the judgment of Yahweh, and for controversies, when they returned to Jerusalem. 19:9 And he charged them, saying, Thus shall ye do in the fear of Yahweh, faithfully, and with a perfect heart. 19:10 And what cause soever shall come to you of your brethren that dwell in their cities, between blood and blood, between law and commandment, statutes and judgments, ye shall even warn them that they trespass not against Yahweh, and so wrath come upon you, and upon your brethren: this do, and ye shall not trespass. 19:11 And, behold, Amariah the chief priest is over you in all matters of Yahweh; and Zebadiah the son of Ishmael, the ruler of the house of Judah, for all the king's matters: also the Levites shall be officers before you. Deal courageously, and Yahweh shall be with the good.
[He set up both civil and religious legislation under Yahweh.]
(2Ch 20:31-37 KJV) And Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah: he was thirty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem. 20:34 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of Jehu the son of Hanani, who is mentioned in the book of the kings of Israel. 20:35 And after this did Jehoshaphat king of Judah join himself with Ahaziah king of Israel, who did very wickedly: 20:36 And he joined himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish: and they made the ships in Eziongeber. 20:37 Then Eliezer the son of Dodavah of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, Because thou hast joined thyself with Ahaziah, Yahweh hath broken thy works. And the ships were broken, that they were not able to go to Tarshish.
[Jehoshaphat did good for the majority of his life. In his youth he joined his kinfolk Ahaz and was chastened and returned to Yahweh. In the end it seems the draw of blood kin was the stronger pull for he ended up joining with Israel by joining Ahaziah.
Family, related by blood, does seem to pull many away from a pure walk with Yahweh. There is also the pull from former friends from our past walks, all this deals with heart issues. Who really is the love of my life? We need to ask ourselves the following questions: Who would I give up all comfort and safety, physical and relational, to seek their approval? Who has the key to my heart? Prayerfully we will all answer: YAHWEH OF HOSTS IS HIS NAME! If this is not your answer, but you wished it was, ask our Father Yahweh to prepare your heart so this will be true for you! He is waiting to hear from you!]
