Temptation

May 16, 2020

[The first temptation was not called a temptation in scripture.]

(Gen 3:1-6 KJV) Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which Yahweh Almighty had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath Almighty said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? 3:2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: 3:3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, Almighty hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. 3:4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: 3:5 For Almighty doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. 3:6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

[They went where there was known danger. Eve added to Yahweh's words and Adam stood silent while she faced the enemy. Both sinned before they ate of the fruit, it was the last straw, not the first. So it is with us when we become either willful or careless. It makes us available for the rear attack. Many of our temptations come though our pride being put on the line. I remember from my early church attendance a teacher that pointed out that the letter i is in the middle of both sin and pride. Nothing has changed!]

(Gen 22:1 KJV) And it came to pass after these things, that Almighty did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am.

Tempt H5254 A primitive root; to test; by implication to attempt: - adventure, assay, prove, tempt, try.

Plus H853 Apparently contracted from H226 in the demonstrative sense of entity; properly self (but generally used to point out more definitely the object of a verb or preposition, even or namely): - (As such unrepresented in English.)

[Ex. 17.2, Deu. 6.16, and Isa. 7.12 have the same meaning. So Yahweh was testing Abraham, and no one else. It is not an example for anyone to follow, it was meant of Abraham only.]

(Psa 95:8-9 KJV) Harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness: 95:9 When your fathers tempted Me, proved Me, and saw My work.

Temptation H4531From H5254; a testing, of men (judicial) or of Almighty (querulous): - temptation, trial.

[The one being tested is Yahweh. Will He provide or not? Certainly the river that poured forth from a rock should have been enough proof of His willingness and abilty to provide what ever they needed.]

(Mal 3:15 KJV) And now we call the proud happy; yea, they that work wickedness are set up; yea, they that tempt Almighty are even delivered.

Temp H974 A primitive root; to test (especially metals); generally and figuratively to investigate: - examine, prove, tempt, try (trial).

Tempt G3985From G3984; to test (objectively), that is, endeavor, scrutinize, entice, discipline: - assay, examine, go about, prove, tempt (-er), try.

G3984From the base of G4008 (through the idea of piercing); a test, that is, attempt, experience: - assaying, trial.

[We have all tested Yahweh and found Him good.]

(Mat 26:41 KJV) Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

Temptation G3986 From G3985; a putting to proof (by experiment [of good], experience [of evil], solicitation, discipline or provocation); by implication adversity: - temptation, X try.

[Prayer seems to be the first guard post against being tested. Yet from my personal experience the testing is an on going process. Each successful passed test leads to a deeper testing. Each failed test leads to a re-testing on the same subject until I get it right. There is sometimes a long period with other tests in between, but the re-testing will come to pass, so pray up.]

(Luk 4:1-2 BBE) And Yahshua, full of the Set-apart Spirit, came back from the Jordan, and was guided by the Spirit in the waste land 4:2 For forty days, being tested by the Evil One. And he had no food in those days; and when they came to an end, he was in need of food.

(Luk 22:28-30 TLV) You are the ones who have remained with Me in My times of testing. 22:29 And just as My Father has granted Me a kingdom, so I grant to you 22:30 that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and you shall sit upon thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

[This is the only situations where Yahshua's testing is called a test, but remember all the times when He is questioned, when He asked for obedience and it was denied. That would certainly be a test for me, especially after I had delivered what was asked of me. The versions BBE and TLV uses testing but all others call those times temptations, troubles, and trials which are the times we are tested to see if we will stand firm. Look at the reward of standing firm!]

(Luk 8:13 KJV) They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.

[Temptation takes many forms, some plainly seen and some not so plainly seen. Temptation is not a temptation unless you are curious about, interest in, desiring to have or experience a thing that lures. Otherwise you would not go there or maybe even realize it could be a temptation. None of us can know for sure what temptation will reveal in ourselves a weakness we were not aware of until the opportunity arises. Some of the most foolish and perhaps even dangerous words are: I would never! How little do we know what we are capable of until we are tested. In the moment of temptation the other words spoken are often: Don't knock it if you have not tried it! Those who speak thus are doing the work of the evil one!]

(1Co 10:11-15 KJV) Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. 10:12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but Almighty is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. 10:14 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry. 10:15 I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.

[Easiest way to learn is from someone else s experience, but most of us chose the hard way and reap the consequences. Yahweh's way is usually not that attractive to us but when taken does not have evil consequences. So if you heed this you are among the wise. Everyone, all people are tested whether they or us recognize the test it will and does come to all for all must pass the test of obedience to make it into the kingdom.]

(Gal 4:13-14 KJV) Ye know how through infirmity of the flesh I preached the good news unto you at the first. 4:14 And my temptation which was in my flesh ye despised not, nor rejected; but received me as an angel of Almighty, even as Messiah Yahshua.

[Paul had a thorn in his flesh which is not revealed to us, but was evident to those who met him. He readily recognized it as a test of his character that he needed it to keep him from sinning, possibly something that held pride at bay.]

(Jas 1:12-16 KJV) Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Most High hath promised to them that love Him. 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of Almighty: for Almighty cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth He any man: 1:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 1:15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. 1:16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.

[The popular saying, 'the devil made me do it' is a lie people tell themselves and others to excuse a weakness in character. We all have free choice and no power short of Yahweh Himself can take it from us. When in the midst of temptation it is we who have chosen, no one else, and it is we who will reap the consequences. Die with un-repented sin in your life and or heart and you will not be in the kingdom.]

(Rev 3:10-11 KJV) Because thou hast kept the word of My patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. 3:11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.

[The last great temptation for this world is the appearance of the head Lawless One. Most of us may be in the grave by that time but we will have been tested, and our fate is already sealed at our death. For those alive during the 5th Trumpet it will be a physical as well as spiritual testing. You need to have built up your resistance to temptation before that time is upon you for those who are still yielding will not pass this test for it is in the present as no other time on earth. We can all pass any test if we will give our freedom of choice over to Yahweh so that His will is our desire to do. Not just a yearning but a drive to live in obedience even to the point of death. In order to come to that point you have to have spent hours in conversation with our Father so you know what He desires without having to ask Him. Then act as required and you will hear the words of welcome: well done!]
