Spirit of Yahweh or Holy Ghost?

May 2, 2020

[The Spirit of Yahweh is mentioned in 89 verses in the Old Testament and 38 times in the New Testament, we also have the Holy Ghost{Set-apart Spirit} mentioned 89 times. The answer I am seeking is, are they one and the same? In this lesson I am not going to make corrections to all the words I normally would so as to avoid more confusion.]

(Gen 1:1-3 KJV) In the beginning Almighty created the heaven and the earth. 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God [Almighty]moved upon the face of the waters. 1:3 And Almighty said, Let there be light: and there was light.

(Luk 1:13-15 KJV) But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John. 1:14 And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth. 1:15 For he shall be great in the sight of the Most High, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb. 1:16 And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to Yahweh their Almighty.

[Ah! Creation is the heart of our Father. He created the world, and He creates people to inhabit and take of the gifts He has given. In Luke we have the story in order, John first as the herald and Yahshua second as the teacher.]

(Exo 31:1-3 KJV) And Yahweh spake unto Moses, saying, 31:2 See, I have called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah: 31:3 And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship,

(Luk 1:30-35 KJV) And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with Almighty. 1:31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call His name Yahshau. 1:32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Most High Almighty shall give unto Him the throne of His father David: 1:33 And He shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of His kingdom there shall be no end. 1:34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? 1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that set-apart thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of Yahweh.

[The spirit of Yahweh and the Holy Ghost both do the same work, with power! They chose whom they will have to do a work and then they empower that person so they can get the job done.]

(Mat 3:16-17 KJV) And Yahshua, when He was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon Him: 3:17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

[Whoa! Here we have The Spirit of Yahweh who is mentioned 38 times in the New Testament. So... are they one and the same? Or is there a difference? Is it just the confusion of the Greek influence or has there been a change, an addition? The Holy Ghost is not mentioned in the Old Testament, but here we have both in the New Testament, what is going on?]

Spirit H7307 From H7306; wind; by resemblance breath, that is, a sensible (or even violent) exhalation; figuratively life, anger, unsubstantiality ; by extension a region of the sky; by resemblance spirit, but only of a rational being (including its expression and functions): - air, anger, blast, breath, X cool, courage, mind, X quarter, X side, spirit ([-ual]), tempest, X vain, ([whirl-]) wind (-y).

Ghost G4151 pneuma From G4154; a current of air, that is, breath (blast) or a breeze; by analogy or figuratively a spirit, that is, (human) the rational soul, (by implication) vital principle, mental disposition, etc., or (superhuman) an angel, daemon, or (divine) God, Christ’s spirit, the Holy spirit: - ghost, life, spirit (-ual, -ually), mind. Compare G5590.

[Both the Greek and the Hebrew are in agreement that ghost and spirit are the same. The Greek add human soul, whereas the Hebrew refers to a rational being, not necessarily human.]

God H430 Plural of H433; gods in the ordinary sense; but specifically used (in the plural thus, especially with the article) of the supreme God; occasionally applied by way of deference to magistrates; and sometimes as a superlative: - angels, X exceeding, God (gods) (-dess, -ly), X (very) great, judges, X mighty.

God G2316 theos Of uncertain affinity; a deity, especially (with G3588) the supreme Divinity; figuratively a magistrate; by Hebraism very: - X exceeding, God, god [-ly, -ward].

[Both agree that in order to make the word god apply to Yahweh you have to add a word that sets it apart from the crowd called god or gods.]

Holy H6944 From H6942; a sacred place or thing; rarely abstractly sanctity: - consecrated (thing), dedicated (thing), hallowed (thing), holiness, (X most) holy (X day, portion, thing), saint, sanctuary.

Holy G40 (an awful thing) compare G53, [H2282]; sacred (physically pure, morally blameless or religious, ceremonially consecrated): - (most) holy (one, thing), saint.

[Here is spelled out the difference between the Hebrew and the Greek. The Greek makes holy to be physically pure, where as the Hebrew says it is a person, place, or thing that has been dedicated, or set apart for Yahweh, though His name is not mentioned. I mention it because in our scriptures that is how it is used – in reference to Yahweh and His kingdom. So based on what we see the Spirit of Yahweh and the Holy Spirit are the same personage.

Now my next question is where is the Comforter in all this?]

Comforter H5162 A primitive root; properly to sigh, that is, breathe strongly; by implication to be sorry, that is, (in a favorable sense) to pity, console or (reflexively) rue; or (unfavorably) to avenge (oneself): - comfort (self), ease [one’s self], repent (-er, -ing, self).

(Ecc 4:1 KJV)  So I returned, and considered all the oppressions that are done under the sun: and behold the tears of such as were oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors there was power; but they had no comforter.

(Lam 1:15-16 KJV) The Most High hath trodden under foot all my mighty men in the midst of me: he hath called an assembly against me to crush my young men: the Most High hath trodden the virgin, the daughter of Judah, as in a winepress. 1:16 For these things I weep; mine eye, mine eye runneth down with water, because the comforter that should relieve my soul is far from me: my children are desolate, because the enemy prevailed.

[In the Old Testament there is no comforter found for Yahweh's people when they were in distress.]

Comforter G3875 An intercessor, consoler: - advocate, comforter.

(Joh 14:15-18 KJV) If ye love Me, keep My commandments. 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you for ever; 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth Him not, neither knoweth Him: but ye know Him; for He dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. 14:18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. ...14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

[In verse 26 the words 'which is' have been added according to my 1611 copy of the KJV. It does make a difference for in 16.7 it says the comforter could not come until Yahshua leaves, yet all of scriptures teach the Set-apart Spirit has been here from the beginning. All agree on 'the holy ghost or the helper' are correct. Remember 'the' indicates a separate being from a group who are similar. Let us not assume this is the spirit of Yahweh for He also has been here from the beginning. Verse 17 says they should know of whom He speaks for He is with them now and shall be in them later.]

(Joh 15:26 KJV) But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, He shall testify of Me:

(Joh 16:7-15 KJV) Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send Him unto you. 16:8 And when He is come, He will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 16:9 Of sin, because they believe not on Me; 16:10 Of righteousness, because I go to My Father, and ye see Me no more; 16:11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. 16:12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. 16:13 Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will shew you things to come. 16:14 He shall glorify Me: for He shall receive of Mine, and shall shew it unto you. 16:15 All things that the Father hath are Mine: therefore said I, that He shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

Advocate G3875 An intercessor, consoler: - advocate, comforter.

(1Jn 2:1-6 KJV) My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Yahshua the Messiah the righteous: 2:2 And He is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. 2:3 And hereby we do know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. 2:4 He that saith, I know Him, and keepeth not His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 2:5 But whoso keepeth His word, in him verily is the love of Almighty perfected: hereby know we that we are in Him. 2:6 He that saith He abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as He walked.

(1Jn 2:1 TLV & TS2009)  My children, I am writing these things to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an Intercessor with the Father—the righteous Messiah Yahshua.

(1Jn 2:1 BBE)  My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may be without sin. And if any man is a sinner, we have a friend and helper with the Father, Yahshua Messiah, the upright one:

[John is the only one to speak to this issue, it seems that the rest were busy when this gift was spoken of. Yet! But! Don't we require two witnesses to prove a thing? Are not John and John quoting Yahshua two witnesses?

I have always believed that the comforter is Yahshua in spirit form so He can be with each one, no matter how many ones there are calling on Him. In John 14 Yahshua promises to come to us and to comfort us. He says Yahweh will allow this because Yahshua has promised to be in the hearts of those who love Yahweh, His and our Father. First He speaks of obedience in verse 1, for scriptures teach us that all special blessings come because of obedience. 1John 2.1 stresses we are given the writings so we will not sin. Still there is given hope for those who do sin, Yahshua our lawyer, but even better than a lawyer, as one who loves us enough that He has already paid for the sins we are confessing and putting away. True repentance is a putting away of the confessed sins, then He will stand for us claiming His blood is sufficient. Repentance is also a returning to righteousness as spelled out in scriptures, not the rules of man! John 16:13-14 explains why we do not hear more about the comforter, those present were not able to bear any more knowledge at that time. So the next words seem to be lost on them only to be retained and spoken of by John.]

14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

[Many tell me they cannot tell what is the voice of the Comforter and what is their own thoughts. Compare those ideas against scriptures, if they agree then they originated with the Father and are passed on by the Son! If you do not spend enough time in scriptures to recognize which is which [your idea or His] use your word search and compare. Take time to pray first then research and you will get your answer. That thought, if righteous, was a remembrance so you have heard it before. Maybe not in the same context so it is harder recall. I remember the idea but often have trouble finding the correct word to help in research, but keep plugging and you will get your answer.

My answer to the question posed, are the Holy Spirit, Holy Ghost, and Spirit of Yahweh the same is a resounding No! One is Yahweh, One is Yahshua!]
